A Day in Cairo | Pyramids and Everything About Bargaining!

Things to know before you start;
1 Dollar = 18EP

Hello, that day we woke up early in the morning, like 9 am. Don't say that is not an early time to wake up. It really is for Egypt conditions. People open their stores generally at 11am in Cairo. Because they go to sleep very late. So that I don't think Egyptian people are having effective days in their lives.

  We took a taxi from Nasr City which is a location near to Old Cairo, and went to Pyramids in Giza after a 45 minutes long taxi drive. This costed us 65EP to us. This is a really cheap price compared to USA and Europe. But you should be really careful about the prices in Egypt. Because if you are tourist you will always face with overcharging. The best way to minimize costs is bargaining. I know, it is not a traditional way to buy something by bargain in USA or Europe but, the things are going on this way here.

Rules of Bargaining

  • Be stubborn.
  • Have an idea about genereal prices, so that you can estimate the right value and buy something easily by estimating values which make customers and sellers satisfied.
  • Don't be so interested with the product, that will give power to seller.
  • Act like you can leave the store anytime if you are not satisfied with price.

These rules may sound weird. But it is what it is in Egyptian Culture. You can also use this rules in middle east countries and Turkey.Cultures are very similar.

 In Egypt, especially in Khan Khalili(Africa's biggest bazaar) products have prices 7-8 times higher than their normal prices. Prices may sound cheap if you use a valuable money too. But why you should pay higher, instead of having chance to buy more of it ?

 After going to Pyramids, we got into the area by paying 80EP(for students). Technic was amazing. I really inspired from the pyramids. They stay there as the evidence of Ancient Egypt's power.

At the entrance you will see horses and camels ready to be hired. You can travel around the whole area of pyramids there. For 1 hour of it we paid 90EP for a person. But also I know a guy who came here and paid 900 EP for a horse,also for 1 hour.Let's remember the rules of bargaining.90 EP is a price for Egyptians. So this is the normal value.Here, if you have a friend who knows Arabic, that will work perfectly. Because they know that, you will need something to travel the whole area.

I hope you enjoy your vacation. See you soon!
